growth

tree-rings

Word: “… grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen” (2 Peter 3:18)

Wonder: As one of His disciples, our Lord, risen from the dead, now desires to rise up in you. May you face with the Spirit of Christ all that you encounter today, and so, may His growth in you be evident to all, for His glory. What will you choose to do today to truly grow in the way you know Jesus Christ?

  1. As we grow older we forget that everyday offers new opportunities to see God at work in us and others. 2 Peter 3:9 adds

“He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (NIV)

    And the NLT reads

“The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise to return, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to perish, so he is giving more time for everyone to repent. ”

It never ceases to amaze me at God’s long-suffering. He is waiting to give that very last person to come to Him the opportunity to, despite the evil in the world today. All He asks of us is to be a point of light in the world for Him. Simple task, eternal consequences.

  2. I recently shared with a friend that I was in a low place in my faith. She commented that it is in these times that God is pruning us and to be patient. Yesterday I spent the better part of the afternoon cutting back some plants that were overgrown. The ends of their long leaves were frayed, brown and ugly. There were leaves that were completely dead that I had to throw away. After the pruning the plant looked a lot better with more green showing. I saw under the dead ugly leaves I’d cut back, new growth. Young, green, healthy leaves were beginning to grow and restore the plant’s beauty. As I am being pruned I can only pray that there is fresh undergrowth waiting to bring my spiritual fervor back. I see prayers being answered and that is encouraging. God is supreme and Christ reigns in Heaven.
