pray tell: how did Jesus pray?

Sometimes alone

“Jesus got up . . . went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” (Mark 1:35 TNIV)

Sometimes in secluded places in the company of a few others he had asked to pray with him

“Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him . . .” (Luke 9:18 TNIV)

“. . . Jesus . . . took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray.” (Luke 9:28 TNIV)

Sometimes with his face toward heaven and his eyes open

“After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed . . .” (Luke 17:1 TNIV)

Sometimes silently with a look toward heaven and a sigh from a heavy heart

“He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said . . .” (Mark 7:34 TNIV)

Sometimes audibly where anyone could hear, with joy and praise

“At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, ‘I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.'” (Luke 10:21 TNIV)

Sometimes with thankfulness and gratitude that his Father just heard his prayers

“So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, ‘Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.’” (John 11:41-42 TNIV)

Sometimes with passion beyond words, involving his body as well as his heart and mind

“And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.” (Luke 22:44 TNIV)
