One day, a mother weary of having to remind her children every year to send their grandmother a thank you note announced to them she was no longer going to remind them to do so. They were on their own and they would do well not to slip up!
Well, when the mother consulted with the grandmother some days following Christmas, she was pleasantly surprised to learn that all of her children had not only said “thank you,” but had each paid a personal visit to their grandmother.
The mother beamed and triumphantly said, “Well, I guess I taught them well, didn’t I?” To which, grandmother slightly shrugged her shoulders and raised an eyebrow.
“Okay, Mom, what do you think did the trick?”
Grandmother replied, “This year I didn’t sign the checks!”
